Varese - A notebook for those in need: the "suspended backpack" arrives in Varese - Varese Lakes - Varese News

A simple, charitable initiative to guarantee the right to education for all children : the "suspended backpack" project has arrived in Varese , launched by the Varese Insubria Lions Club. It's inspired by the famous tradition of "suspended coffee" (delivering a paid coffee to someone who can't afford it), which originated in Naples. The goal is to support families experiencing hardship as the school year begins by providing school supplies to the youngest children.
How it works: how to donateStarting at the end of August , some participating stationery stores in the city will be offering notebooks, markers, crayons, pencil cases, sketchbooks, and other school supplies, and will be able to leave them "on hold." The supplies will then be donated to children who would otherwise be unable to afford them. Three historic stationery stores in the city have already joined the initiative: "Viras" on Via Francesco Crispi 77, "Villa" on Via Walter Marcobi 7, and "Gian-Pi" on Via Montebello 3. Residents can also donate used backpacks or pencil cases in good condition.
A network of solidarityThe distribution of the materials will be managed by the Lions Club in collaboration with local charities , primarily Caritas Decanale. Recipients will be identified confidentially through referrals from social services and schools, thus ensuring a targeted and respectful response . "With this project, we want to offer a concrete sign of support," explains Marco Canziani, president of the Varese Insubria Lions Club. "For many children, a backpack is more than an accessory: it's a symbol of dignity, equality with their peers, and self-confidence. Knowing that the community is mobilizing to guarantee this right makes all the difference."
More than a donationBeyond material aid, the initiative aims to strengthen a sense of community. Every donated backpack is a small investment in the future and social cohesion. The Lions Club invites everyone to participate, remembering that even a small gesture can transform into a great act of solidarity.
